Jessy Tomsko is a composer/lyricist/librettist, performer, singer/songwriter, and teaching artist in New York.  As a singer/songwriter, she has shared the stage with such artists as Edwin McCain, Loudon Wainwright, Joan Osborne, and Dar Williams, and she has independently released multiple albums, EPs, and singles, which can be streamed and downloaded on all platforms.  Jessy recently won the Anthem To US lyric-writing competition, sponsored by Lincoln Center and Brooklyn Public Library, and her lyrics were set to music by Drama Desk award winners Martha Redbone and Aaron Whitby.  This resulting song collaboration, titled “Let Them Fly”, was performed by Jessy, Martha, Aaron, and Vuyo Satashe at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park in July 2024.  The song was so well-received that it was then reprised by Jessy, Martha, and Aaron at Lincoln Center’s Fall Gala at the David Geffen Hall in November 2024, and NBC aired a feature on Jessy and the competition itself.

In the realm of musical theatre, Jessy’s work has been workshopped and performed at a variety of festivals, concerts, and residencies, and her songs have been performed and recorded by some of Broadway’s finest, such as Jackie Burns (Wicked, Burlesque), John Cardoza (The Notebook, Moulin Rouge), and Hannah Elless (Bright Star).  Her original musical IN EMILY’S WORDS, for which she wrote the book, music, and lyrics, was selected for the 2023-2024 SUNY Cortland/CreateTheater partnership, the culmination of which was a performance at the CreateTheater New Works Festival in May 2024.  The adjudicators of the festival then voted the show the winner in three categories:  Best Musical, Best Score, and Best Book.  IN EMILY’S WORDS was again performed as a reading in June 2024 at the Florida Festival of New Musicals, having been selected as one of six shows out of a nationwide search.  Over the course of its development, the show has also been selected for the Emerging Artists Theatre Company’s SPARK festival in 2021, as the only musical chosen that season, and in 2022, IN EMILY’S WORDS was selected for the New Musical Laboratory at Michigan State University - a residency that allowed Jessy to work with director Susanna Wolk (& Juliet, Waitress) and actor Jonathan Christopher (Sweeney Todd, Hamilton).  Some of Jessy’s other projects include THE FARMER, a “folk opera” written with collaborator Mia Walker (Jagged Little Pill, Waitress) which was workshopped at Montclair State University’s New Musical Initiative in 2022, and BOLEYN, a Renaissance-inspired piece that has been workshopped with the Musical Theatre Factory, NY Theatre Barn, and was presented in concert at the 2022 TudorCon in Lancaster, PA.

Jessy’s teaching and coaching work includes being a vocal director for Sesame Street and Apple TV’s Helpsters, being on the faculty at Art House Astoria for the past 11 years where in January/February '25 she also music directed a new show by Rob Rokicki (The Lightning Thief), teaching master classes around the city (most recently a songwriting workshop with Innovative Theatrics), and maintaining a busy roster of private students.  As a cabaret performer, she has shared the stage multiple times with Sesame Street's Leslie Carrara-Rudolph, most recently in October of 2024, when they again performed their Moonlight Madness cabaret at Green Room 42.  The show will be back by popular demand for the 5th time in October 2025.

Also upcoming in 2025, Jessy’s musical IN EMILY’S WORDS will be performed as a full production at the Montverde Academy in Florida, opening their theatre program’s 2025-2026 season in September.
